National Youth Harp Orchestra

Professional harpist Luisa Cordell founded the International Harp Ensemble, now known as the National Youth Harp Orchestra, in 2002 with just eight young harpists from Surrey, where she teaches, and it grew rapidly. Players now travel from across the UK to take part with demand so high that auditions are now required.

The young musicians demonstrate natural flair, energy and professionalism and have appeared on radio and TV including Songs of Praise and Blue Peter. Repertoire is diverse, from traditional Celtic music to Bach, jazz, film scores and modern day commissions.

The orchestra have performed all over Europe and enjoyed a UK theatre tour in celebration of their tenth anniversary in 2012. They have previously been invited to perform at The Edinburgh International Harp Ensemble and in 2013 visited the USA performing with The American Youth Harp Ensemble. During their trip they were guests of the British Ambassador and performed at the British Embassy and entertained Hillary and Bill Clinton and their family amongst other dignitaries.
